Latvia
This year we have begun a new work in a new country, Latvia. Formerly part of the old Soviet Union, Latvia gained independence in 1991 but it was not fully ratified until 1994. It was accepted into the European Community in 2004 and enjoyed a growing prosperity in the early years of membership. However, during the present global financial crisis, Latvia has been one of the worst effected nations in Europe and now has become the 3rd poorest country in the European Community.
Igor arrived from Latvia a couple of years ago and has been working with Drop Inn Ministries in Northern Ireland since then, His heart however, was always for his own people in Latvia so in 2010 he returned with the desire to help the needy people of his home country.
Drop Inn is now working with Igor as he takes food parcels out to the poor, to orphanages, to old-people’s homes and to the homeless. It is a small beginning but Igor’s vision, like that of Drop Inn, is to take the help to the needy in the Name of Jesus so they may know the Hope that they can have in Him, and to do that right across Latvia.
